The Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum is one of 15 presidential libraries administered by the National Archives and Records Administration's Office of Presidential Libraries in College Park, Maryland.
The Nixon Library's primary mission is educate and inform. We serve the public interest by displaying in our permanent and temporary galleries, and preserving and making available for research on-line and through our on-site research operation, the documents and audiovisual materials of President Nixon's life and times. Through the work of our archive, museum, education, and public programming teams, we present an educational, cultural, and historical resource for local and international visitors, as well as our global research community. We assist all those who search for knowledge and understanding of the 37th President of the United States, his administration, and his ongoing impact on the world.
Richard Nixon’s Presidency is one of the most exhaustively documented administrations in American history. The Nixon Presidential Materials Collection contains approximately 46 million pages of documents, 3,700 hours of recorded Presidential conversations known as the “White House Tapes”, 4,000 separate recordings of broadcast video, nearly 4,500 audio recordings, 300,000 still photographs, two million feet of film, and more than 42,000 State and Public Gifts.

Why Drupal was chosen
The government often prefers Drupal as a content management system (CMS) for several key reasons:
-
Open Source: Drupal is an open-source platform, meaning it is free to use and can be modified to meet specific needs without the cost of licensing fees. This is economically advantageous for government budgets.
-
Security: Drupal is known for its strong security features and regular updates, which are crucial for protecting sensitive government data. It has a dedicated security team and a track record of timely security patches.
-
Scalability and Flexibility: Drupal can handle a wide range of websites, from small sites to large, complex government portals. It is highly customizable and scalable, making it suitable for various government departments and agencies.
-
Community Support: Drupal has a large and active community of developers and users who contribute to its continuous improvement. This community support ensures that the platform evolves to meet current and future needs.
-
Compliance: Drupal helps government websites comply with various regulations and standards, such as accessibility standards (WCAG), privacy laws, and security guidelines. This compliance is essential for government agencies.
-
Content Management: Drupal offers robust content management capabilities, allowing for efficient content creation, management, and publishing. This is essential for government websites that need to provide timely and accurate information to the public.
-
Multilingual Support: Many government websites need to be accessible in multiple languages. Drupal has strong multilingual capabilities, making it easier to create and manage content in different languages.
-
Integration Capabilities: Drupal can integrate with various other systems and services, which is important for government agencies that need to connect their websites with databases, third-party applications, and other platforms.
-
User Roles and Permissions: Drupal provides detailed control over user roles and permissions, allowing for secure and organized management of who can create, edit, and publish content.
