Supporting the Infrastructure the Open Web Depends On
The Case for Investing in Shared Infrastructure
Drupal is more than software - it’s a shared digital infrastructure that powers millions of websites around the world. From governments and universities to global brands and nonprofits, Drupal provides that foundation for secure, flexible, and future-ready digital experiences.
Drupal has been recognized as a Digital Public Good (DPG) by the Digital Public Good Alliance (DPGA) in “recognition of the positive global impact that Drupal has had in promoting equity as an open source technology.”
As an independent open source project, Drupal is not funded by license fees, but by the collective contributions of those who use, build, and believe in the power of the open web. Drupal’s success depends on all of us.
Open source software is free to use, but its infrastructure is not free to operate. When shared infrastructure is underfunded, risk doesn’t disappear — it moves downstream to every organization that relies on it. Maintainers burn out, quality and security decline, innovation slows, and governance becomes fragile. Over time, organizations pay more through custom work, emergency fixes, or forced migrations. Donating is a practical investment in the stability, trust, and long-term viability of the software your organization depends on.
When your organization becomes a Drupal Sustaining Member, your annual membership directly funds the Drupal Association’s ongoing management and maintenance of critical infrastructure that makes collaboration, development, distribution, and community functions possible. You help to ensure that Drupal remains stable, secure, innovative, and open for everyone.
