Organizations Involved

CGT (Compagnia Generale Trattori), the official Caterpillar dealer in Italy operates in sectors such as construction, infrastructure, energy, and industrial services. Its website is a key digital touchpoint where customers explore machinery, discover services, access spare parts solutions, and connect with digital tools for fleet management.

To support this complex ecosystem, CGT evolved its digital platform into a structured and scalable Drupal-based solution capable of handling large volumes of technical product data, service information, and sector-specific content.
The platform has recently undergone a technology upgrade to Drupal 11, ensuring long-term maintainability, security, and performance while supporting CGT’s ongoing digital evolution.

About the project

The Challenge

CGT’s digital presence had to support a broad range of business needs beyond a traditional corporate website. The platform needed to manage a large catalog of machines and equipment, technical documentation, and service offerings while maintaining a clear and efficient user experience for different types of visitors. Contractors, engineers, and industrial operators require quick access to detailed specifications, application contexts, and support services.

In addition to product discovery, the platform had to integrate digital services such as spare parts purchasing, customer portals, and fleet monitoring tools, making the website a central entry point for CGT’s broader digital ecosystem.

The challenge was therefore to create an architecture capable of handling complex relationships between products, industries, and services while remaining flexible and scalable for future developments.

The Project

Hinto®Group supported CGT in the evolution of its digital platform by designing a Drupal-based architecture focused on structured content and long-term scalability. The platform models machines, services, industry solutions, and support resources through custom content types and taxonomies. This structure allows technical information to be organized in a way that reflects how customers search for machines and services in real-world operational contexts.

Dynamic listings built with Drupal Views enable the creation of flexible product and service pages, while structured metadata improves navigation across categories, sectors, and applications. From an editorial perspective, the system provides internal teams with a modular content management environment, allowing updates to product information, service descriptions, and industry solutions without requiring complex development interventions.

The architecture also supports integration with external digital services related to spare parts management, digital fleet monitoring, and after-sales support.

The Result

The Drupal platform now serves as a central hub for CGT’s digital presence, bringing together product discovery, service information, and digital tools within a single coherent experience.

Customers can more easily explore machinery and services, access technical information, and connect with CGT’s digital services. At the same time, internal teams benefit from a structured editorial system that simplifies content management and supports continuous updates.
The platform provides CGT with a scalable foundation that can evolve alongside its business and digital services, supporting future integrations and the expansion of its online ecosystem.

Why Drupal was chosen

Drupal was selected for its ability to manage complex structured content and large product ecosystems within a robust enterprise architecture. Its flexible content modeling capabilities make it possible to represent machines, services, and industrial solutions through interconnected data structures, enabling efficient navigation across large catalogs and technical information.

Drupal’s modular architecture also supports integrations with external systems and digital services, which is essential for platforms that need to connect with customer tools, spare parts management systems, and other business applications.

Finally, the migration to Drupal 11 ensures that CGT’s platform benefits from the latest improvements in performance, security, and maintainability, providing a future-proof foundation for the continued evolution of the company’s digital ecosystem.
