Sector(s)
The University of Tabuk is one of Saudi Arabia’s prominent public universities, located in the Kingdom’s northwest region and serving as an academic and research hub for the area. Since its establishment, the university has expanded significantly, offering a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs across multiple colleges and specialized research centers. With a diverse student population, a growing faculty community, and ongoing campus development projects, the University of Tabuk continues to play a key role in advancing education, research, and innovation in line with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030.
To support its expanding academic mission and digital demands from students, faculty, and administrative units, the university set out to enhance its online ecosystem and strengthen its digital experience across all touchpoints.
Project Goals
The objective for the University of Tabuk was to create a unified digital architecture that could scale across the entire institution. The solution needed to centralize management, ensure platform consistency, and maintain shared UI and UX standards, while still allowing individual departments the autonomy to manage their content. A critical part of this transformation involved migrating legacy content to a modern Drupal stack, integrating authentication services to provide seamless user access, and improving overall performance, security, and accessibility across all university digital touchpoints.
Solution Implementation
Sprintive engineered a multi-layered Drupal multisite platform designed to support 200+ academic and administrative subsites, all operating under a centralized codebase and content governance model.
Key technical achievements include:
- Deployment of a multi-tier Drupal multisite architecture with shared modules, component libraries, and configuration inheritance
- Full adoption of Saudi Arabia’s Platforms Code to ensure compliance with national standards for UI, UX, layout, accessibility, and interaction design
- Integration with university authentication services, enabling centralized single sign-on and secure role-based access control across subsites
- End-to-end content and data migration from the legacy system into the new platform, preserving structure and taxonomy relationships
- Optimization of editorial workflows to enable distributed content management across departments while maintaining strong governance and approval layers
- Implementation of accessibility best practices and integration of Musaed, ensuring inclusive access for individuals with varying needs
Results
The University of Tabuk now operates a unified and centrally governed digital ecosystem that provides a consistent and scalable experience for students, faculty, and administrative users. The multisite strategy significantly reduced operational overhead, improved content lifecycle management, and allowed the university to rapidly onboard and maintain new departmental websites as needs evolve.
By leveraging Drupal’s enterprise-grade flexibility and aligning with Saudi Platforms Code, the university is now equipped with a modern digital infrastructure capable of supporting future services, integrations, and digital expansion.
The university chose Drupal as the core of its web ecosystem due to its proven stability and flexibility in complex government and higher-education environments. Drupal’s multisite architecture, native multilingual support, strong security framework, and robust content governance capabilities made it the ideal backbone for handling a large network of interconnected sites. The platform’s compliance-first foundation also supported alignment with Saudi digital standards and future national integrations.
