Organizations Involved

COVID TRIALS CANADA is:

  • a non-profit initiative supported by Think Research, the Canadian healthcare software company
  • a team of Canadian medical leaders: researchers working to find treatments and vaccines for COVID-19
  • a central hub that matches eligible patients, who are willing to participate in clinical trials across Canada, with suitable trials available in their area

In short: it’s a central hub that connects researchers to patients who've contracted the virus and who are interested in joining COVID-19 vaccine trials.

The Challenge

There have been 2 main challenges, actually:

1. Implementing a domain redirection
The English version (covidtrials.ca) had to redirect to essaiscovid.ca for the French one and back again.

2. Integrating Pardot
One of our client's main requirements was that the contact form on the “About” page should submit the collected user data to Pardot API.
The challenge that we faced there was the contributed module used for this integration. It turned out it had a few bugs we had to fix.

Our Solution

As regards the "domain redirection" issue, a suite of domain contributed modules and a couple of site-building hours helped us meet this requirement.

We also had to invest some time into fixing the bugs detected in the contributed module that helped us integrate Pardot with the website.

The Process

It was a pretty smooth and straightforward development process:

  • a couple of sliders here and there
  • plenty of building, content editing and theming work to make it look as appealing and intuitive for its visitors as possible

We worked closely with the client, throughout the process, to tweak particular sections/pages on the website.

The Result

A crowdsourcing Drupal 8 website with intuitive navigation, where:

  • our client can edit the content on the go
  • end-users – prospective volunteers for COVID-19 clinical trials – can easily fill out a registration form with their data, which then goes straight to the appropriate research team for validation

In short: Covidtrials.ca is an easy to use website – both for its editors and the patients accessing it – that simplifies the volunteer recruitment process.

Why Drupal was chosen

Because our client needed a platform that would allow him to easily add/edit/publish/manage content on the website himself.

And Drupal (particularly Drupal 8) is already famous for enabling users to be as self-sufficient as they want to be.
In other words: operational freedom was the main reason why they chose Drupal 8.
In this respect, we gave our client a quick how-to, that he managed to carry out in no time, with no assistance from us.

Why these modules/theme/distribution were chosen

Domain Access, Domain Language Access, and Domain Language Negotiation
We used these modules to meet the “domain redirect” requirement that our client had.

Pardot Integration
It enabled us to meet our client's second important requirement: submitting the contact form to Pardot API.

Paragraphs
We used it to ensure efficient content structuring and editing on the website.

Slick and Blazy
These 2 modules provided us with the libraries we needed to create the sliders on the “Active Trials” page.
