Why Drupal was chosen
Drupal was selected for its robustness and suitability for large-scale institutional platforms:
- Proven security and reliability in public-sector environments
- Advanced content structuring and editorial governance
- Flexibility to support continuous improvement and migrations
- Strong ecosystem for long-term maintenance
- Ability to support complex, multi-site architectures
Drupal provides a stable foundation for both operational continuity and long-term evolution.
Technical Specifications
Drupal version:
Paragraph module : As part of the migration of SharePoint components to Drupal, the Paragraph module was selected due to its strong conceptual similarity to SharePoint components. It enables a modular, component-based content architecture where each functional block can be modeled as an independent, reusable paragraph type. Within the Banque de France digital ecosystem, this component-driven approach supported the transition toward a more sustainable, user-centered, and product-oriented Drupal architecture, while preserving business logic embedded in the original SharePoint implementation.
Domain module (multisite – site factory approach) : The Domain module was chosen to support a multisite architecture based on a shared core platform — a “site factory” model. This approach allows multiple sites to run from a common Drupal codebase while maintaining domain-specific configurations and content separation. For a complex institutional ecosystem like Banque de France, this architecture ensured performance, sustainability, and alignment with institutional requirements, while enabling strategic evolution of the digital platform over time.
