While this project did not include the release of custom open source modules at this stage, it reflects the application of Drupal best practices in a cultural and educational context.

The project reinforces the value of Drupal as a sustainable platform for editorial structure, content autonomy, and long-term digital evolution. For JAVALI, each Drupal implementation is also an opportunity to deepen applied knowledge and continue promoting robust, accessible, and durable digital solutions within the open source ecosystem.

Almada Dance Conservatory is a Portuguese dance conservatory focused on specialized artistic education. Its educational offer includes open courses, vocational training, and specialized dance education programs. Beyond its formal training activity, the institution also promotes workshops, intensive courses, performances, and other initiatives aimed at different age groups, skill levels, and artistic contexts.

As an institution with a diverse educational and cultural offer, the conservatory needed a digital platform capable of presenting its identity, programs, and institutional information in a clearer and more structured way.

About the project

JAVALI developed the new website for Almada Dance Conservatory using the latest stable version of Drupal, with the goal of strengthening the institution’s digital presence and improving how it communicates its educational offer, activities, and institutional information.

The project was developed a partnership between JAVALI and the conservatory, creating a stronger digital foundation to support communication with students, families, and the broader community.

The main challenge was to build a website that could better reflect the diversity of the conservatory’s activity and educational offer. The platform needed to present information in a way that was clear and accessible to different audiences, while also making content management simpler for the internal team.

Key requirements included:

  • clearly presenting the different course types;
  • publishing activities, performances, and news through a consistent editorial structure;
  • organizing institutional information in a more accessible way;
  • ensuring a simple user experience across desktop and mobile devices;
  • creating a solution prepared for future updates and long-term evolution.

JAVALI addressed these requirements with a Drupal-based solution focused on content clarity, intuitive navigation, and editorial autonomy. The website, available in Portuguese, was designed with a responsive layout and compatibility with major browsers. The result is a digital platform that is better aligned with the conservatory’s identity and day-to-day communication needs.

The new website improved the overall organization of information, simplified access to educational and institutional content, and created a more robust foundation for future growth. It also gave the conservatory’s team greater autonomy in managing and updating content.

Why Drupal was chosen

Drupal was selected for its flexibility, long-term sustainability, and strong content management capabilities.

For this project, Drupal provided the right foundation to support a structured and scalable digital experience, with an intuitive editorial back office and the ability to evolve over time. Its flexibility made it possible to organize different content areas clearly, while supporting responsive design, maintainability, and a consistent user experience across devices.

Drupal was also a strong fit for a project that required a reliable, future-ready platform capable of balancing institutional communication needs with ease of day-to-day content management.

Why these modules/theme/distribution were chosen

The project was built on Drupal 11 using a streamlined custom implementation rather than a prepackaged distribution, in order to better match the conservatory’s specific communication and editorial needs.

The selected Drupal setup was designed to support structured content types, intuitive content administration, responsive presentation, and long-term maintainability. Modules and configuration were chosen based on reliability, flexibility, and ease of use for the internal team, avoiding unnecessary complexity while ensuring the platform could evolve over time.

The theme layer was developed with a strong focus on clarity, responsiveness, and consistent presentation of institutional and editorial content. This made it possible to create a digital experience that is both user-friendly and sustainable from a technical and editorial perspective.
