We developed a simple module for an Edit Page-button that makes it easy for editors to edit the page they are visiting and also see the node id.

Union to Union is the Swedish Trade Union Confederation, the Confederation of Professional Employees and the Swedish Confederation of Professional Associations joint organization for union development cooperation. The organization works to strengthen unions in the world, contribute knowledge and influence for global justice.

Through Union to Union, the Swedish unions support around a hundred trade union development projects in as many countries. Among other things, the projects deal with strengthening organization, educating members about human rights in working life and collective bargaining, as well as supporting advocacy work.

About the project

The main goal of the project was to migrate the site from Drupal 7 to Drupal 9 and in this process also add new functionality and a fresh design. The basic idea was to use standard modules as much as possible to provide good stability and a working compatibility between modules.

Paragraphs

One requirement was to improve the possibilities to build landing pages with flexible layout and custom content. To provide this functionality the module Paragraphs was selected.

Instead of putting all content in one WYSIWYG body field Paragraphs allows website editors to work with different types of content in a structured way. The editors can choose between these pre-defined Paragraph Types:

  • Text and image
  • Link collection
  • Carousel
  • Lists
  • Views
  • Video
  • Blurb

Webform as webshop

The site features a simple webshop where books and folders can be ordered. The first idea was to use Drupal Commerce, but since it's an advanced eCommerce platform and the shop on this site is more like an order form we chose not to use it. Instead the Webform module was a better fit with a simple custom cart functionality.

Why Drupal was chosen

Drupal enables a flexible website where content can be rearranged and updated dynamically. Another reason for Drupal 9 is that the organization previously worked with both Drupal 6 and 7 and there are convenient solutions to migrate data from the existing solution to the new one.
