Spectrum Technologies, a global manufacturer specializing in laser wire processing technology, partnered with OpenSense Labs to overhaul its outdated WordPress website. The goal was to develop a scalable, multilingual, and regulation-compliant digital platform that could support integrations with business-critical systems, enhance user experience, and future-proof their web presence. The new website was built using Drupal 10, with multilingual capabilities (including a China-hosted .CN domain), integration with internal CRM and ERP systems, and provisions for customer and future supplier portals. The result was a robust, responsive, and regulation-compliant website aligned with Spectrum's global business operations.

Describe the project (goals, requirements and outcome)

Goals: 

  • Rebuild the existing website on a robust and scalable platform. 
  • Support multilingual content, including a dedicated Chinese .CN site hosted in China. 
  • Integrate internal systems such as Goldmine CRM and ASC ERP. 
  • Enhance UX, site performance, and regulatory compliance. 
  • Develop e-commerce and customer portal capabilities. 
  • Provide ongoing support and future proofing. 

Requirements: 

  • Redesign and develop the main English site as the base for translations. 
  • Support five languages with both machine and backend translations. 
  • Ensure compliance with GDPR, WCAG, and China’s PIPL regulations. 
  • Implement CRM and ERP integrations. 
  • Build customer-facing features like service requests, sample ordering, and account dashboards. 
  • Deliver a responsive, optimized, and user-friendly experience across all devices. 

Outcomes:

  1. Webform: Enabled the creation of versatile forms used for customer interactions, service bookings, and sample requests—supporting Spectrum's sales and support workflows. 
  2. Paragraphs: Provided content editors with flexibility to build structured, reusable content blocks without developer assistance, supporting a modular content strategy. 
  3. Metatag & Pathauto: Critical for SEO, these modules ensure automated metadata generation and clean, user- and search-friendly URLs across all languages. 
  4. Admin Toolbar Suite (admin_toolbar, admin_toolbar_tools, etc.): Enhanced backend usability for administrators, speeding up navigation and access to key configuration areas. 
  5. CKEditor Font (ckeditor_font): Extended the default WYSIWYG editing experience with advanced formatting options, improving content styling and consistency across multilingual regions.
