Τhe portal of Religious Greece is a Destination Management System that gathers and displays selected landmarks and monuments of religious, historical, natural and cultural interest. The project included the development and integration of all the available tools in order to raise the attractiveness of certain areas by increasing their visitation through the promotion of alternative forms of tourism, such as Religious Tourism.
Religious Greece portal hosts the application for displaying and highlighting religious cultural monuments in every region of Greece (Attica, Macedonia, Thrace, Ionian Islands, etc...). Its main menu demonstrates information (in many content types) about Monuments and Sites, Routes, Destinations, Activities, Travel Preparation, Articles, Multimedia and Maps.
The subsystem of geo-referenced visualization of sites and routes, includes the mapping of selected points of significant interest in a Geographic Information System and providing information through the portal or mobile phone.
The portal is equipped with a members' login area, live weather forecasting and newsletter subscription choice.
lt has been developed in Drupal 9 and is accessible from any browser as well as from mobile phones and tablets (responsive design).
All the information is provided in the Greek language, but also in English, French, German and Russian.

Describe the project (goals, requirements and outcome)

The project aimed in increasing public interest in alternative forms of tourism and in particular religious tourism, by gathering in one place, information about landmarks and monuments of religious and/or historical and cultural interest in every corner of Greece. Moreover, the goal was not to just statically catalogue and present the landmarks, but to offer the user a full experience of travel planning and sometimes, even facilitating parts of it. It's practically working as a free guided tour.
Τour operators, associations and clubs of all sorts, are now given a tool that enables travel planning and gives every single visitor/user the chance to engage in activities in many different areas through the website, be part of a community and share their experience with others.
Eventually, Religious Greece turned out to be a quite useful and well designed tool in every user's disposal, even if the purposes of one's trip aren't strictly religious.
