What they needed

The MCC team was working on a plan for the replacement of their sites including their primary website, mcc.org, and their thrift shop site, thrift.mcc.org. They felt that their previous sites were dated and no longer met the needs of their audiences or the organization.

After identifying that they wanted to work with an agency who specialize in Drupal, they approached ImageX to redesign and redevelop both sites, enabling multiple stakeholders and content editors the ability to work on their individual pages and sections. MCC also required our team to provide long-term support to refine the new websites and assist with strategic planning, and development of other digital communications projects and websites.

How we helped

Working collaboratively with the MCC team, we redesigned the sites to work across borders as they bought together the Canadian and US branded assets into one cohesive design.

A design system was implemented that contained variations of blocks, such as variations of a carousel which are full of story cards scattered throughout the site, primarily on key landing pages such as Justice and Equity or at the end of stories. The carousel provides clear messaging about the story along with scannable hints about the story (e.g., location, story type, and theme).

Faceted search was also factored into the rebuild to allow for a better user experience both for the end user and the content editor.

The Results

Drawing from the experience of our senior delivery team plus the approach customized for MCC's unique requirements, the primary goals set by the client that were achieved include:

• Creation of visually engaging and user-centered sites,
• Implementation of a story-focused content strategy,
• Improvement of SEO,
• A site that is user friendly and easy to manage for the content editing team across Canada and USA,
• Improves accessibility across all sites.

With the new mcc.org site, storytelling through words, compelling imagery, and information design is now woven throughout the user experience. Through improved SEO, users can discover what MCC does through various stories highlighted throughout the site. The stories are engaging, informative, and inspiring, and influence users to respond to MCC’s calls to action.
