The University Hospital of Brussels (H.U.B) is located in the heart of Brussels, on two hospital sites in Laeken and Anderlecht. It was created through the fusion of the Bordet Institute, the Erasmus Hospital and the Queen Fabiola Children's Hospital (Huderf).
The merging of these three internationally acclaimed institutions has enabled H.U.B to offer excellent care accessible to all, and today employs over 5,000 people.
The challenge
The combination of 3 separate entities under the H.U.B banner required an in-depth digital transformation, not only of the websites, which had become outdated, but also and above all of the intranet, the main communication tool for the employees of each entity.

The global website (HUB)
The H.U.B. website is primarily a corporate site designed to present the group's hospitals. The goal is to present all the services provided by the Erasme, Huderf and Institut Jules Bordet hospitals in an integrated way. The site reflects the 3 institutions' values of excellence, innovation and accessibility, while highlighting their 3 main missions: care, research and teaching.
Huderf & Erasme websites
We support communications teams as they rethink the Huderf and Erasme sites, which no longer meet current needs and standards. Our approach is to make the most of what has been developed for the H.U.B. and to continue the work by creating the new functionalities required for Erasme and Huderf.
The user experience was conceived in a transversal and integrated way. A design system common to the 2 sites was developed to maintain a strong consistency between the sites, while leaving room for their respective branding.
Services, diseases and contact information are taken from a repository provided by H.U.B.'s IT teams. Filters and search tools make it possible to quickly find secretary contact information, and online forms for booking, modifying or cancelling appointments have also been developed to better qualify requests and reduce direct telephone calls.
The Intranet
An essential pillar of internal communication, the intranet links the 3 institutions that make up the H.U.B.: Erasme, Institut Bordet and Huderf. The new integrated intranet is gradually replacing the intranets of each entity. Access is limited to employees via network restrictions and authentication based on each entity's LDAP directory. The information presented on the home page and in other sections is personalized according to hospital affiliation.
As the information is dense and highly functional, each user has the option of adding favorites to his or her user profile in order to access important information as quickly as possible. A section dedicated to medication and emergencies has also been designed to help users quickly find critical information.
Here too, significant economies of scale were achieved, in particular through the re-use of UX concepts tried and tested on the Erasme, Huderf and H.U.B. websites. To offer maximum flexibility, we have developed over 20 paragraph types that content contributors can exploit as they see fit on every page of the site.
Thanks to its architecture, which is ready to host third-party services such as department and administrative, employee and disease repositories, Drupal is at the heart of the H.U.B.'s digital ecosystem.
The introduction of the Domain Access module enables significant economies of scale, not only in terms of design and development, but also in terms of security and evolutionary maintenance. In fact, Domain Access makes it possible to centralize content management from a database and then publish this content on the site of one's choice. All in a perfectly controlled and highly secure way.
