The Shenzhen Finance Institute (SFI) Official Website has been in use for many years, and its overall design style, information display structure, and functionality are no longer adequate to meet the rapid development of the institute in recent years. Therefore, the institute has decided to undergo a complete overhaul of the website while retaining the original data. This redesign aims to enhance the institute’s brand and overall image.
Challenges
During the execution of this project, we primarily faced three challenges:
Design: The main site of the research institute and its respective sub-sites have their own styles and design standards. One of the original intentions of the project design was to address the significant differences in style between the main site and the sub-sites. The first challenge we faced was how to unify the overall style of the research institute’s website without compromising the individual design standards of each sub-site.
Technical Diversity: Each sub-site was developed by different suppliers using various technologies. All the data needed to be migrated to Drupal. This presented a technical challenge that required us to ensure the integrity and accuracy of the data during the migration and integration process.
Content and Business Integration: The integration of the business and content of each sub-site was complex. The new website design involved data interaction between multiple sites, but since each sub-site had different business and content, it was necessary to integrate them effectively. This required in-depth requirement analysis, system design, and the development of functional modules to support data interaction and integration between sites.
Back to topOur Solutions
In the process of designing the overall solution, we fully considered the complexity of the business operations of each sub-site and the difficulty of communication and coordination. By communicating with the project leaders of the research institute, we set up corresponding milestones. We conducted multiple workshops and interviews, fully communicated with the stakeholders of the sub-sites, and determined their needs, forming a clear project execution plan.
Design
To address the issue of inconsistent design styles, we adopted Drupal as the website’s content management system. Drupal offers a wealth of themes and modules that facilitate design customization for websites. We designed a unified theme and applied it to all sub-sites using Drupal’s theme customization features. Additionally, we employed a component-based design style and technical approach, which allowed for different combinations of the same components across various pages. This satisfied business requirements while also ensuring a cohesive design style. As a result, regardless of which sub-site users visit, they experience a consistent design style, enhancing user experience.
Security
To enhance the website’s security, we utilized Drupal’s security modules and conducted a comprehensive security review and testing of the website. We addressed all known security vulnerabilities and strengthened security measures such as user authentication and data encryption.
Content and Business Integration
Establishing Unified Content Management Standards:
We established unified content management standards, including content publication workflows and tagging specifications, to ensure that content from different sub-sites can be managed and integrated consistently.
Developing Customized Business Modules:
In response to the specific business needs of different sub-sites, we developed customized business modules (Drupal content types) to facilitate business integration and data sharing between sub-sites.
Outcome
1. Achieved a unified design style across different sub-sites, enhancing user experience.
2. Improved website security, reducing the risk of cyber attacks.
3. Added various dynamic effects and styles, increasing the visual appeal of the website.
4. Successfully integrated content and business processes, improving the overall quality and user satisfaction of the website.
This project is not a single site, but rather, each project under the institute operates as a sub-site, comprising a total of 1 main site and 8 sub-sites. Additionally, each site is multilingual. The choice of Drupal is due to its significant advantages over other CMS platforms in terms of multi-site management and multilingual support.
