Community contributions

1xINTERNET is a committed member of the Drupal community, actively contributing to the development and maintenance of core modules and open-source projects. As a proud Drupal Certified Partner, 1xINTERNET champions collaboration and innovation within the community to drive the platform forward.

Selgros, a subsidiary of the Transgourmet group, needed to modernise its marketing app to stay competitive in the wholesale market and better engage customers seeking digital access to promotions and product information. 1xINTERNET developed a sophisticated solution featuring a powerful Drupal backend with a ReactNative application that enables targeted, multichannel content distribution via push notifications. The app offers user-friendly tools like shopping lists and auto-redeemable coupons, enhancing customer experience. For marketers, the streamlined system significantly reduces workloads and operational costs. The result is an efficient, impact-driven marketing platform that strengthens customer loyalty and internal efficiency.

Describe the project (goals, requirements and outcome)

The Client: Selgros Cash & Carry

Selgros Cash & Carry is a leading German wholesale retailer, founded in 1959 and now part of the Transgourmet Group, co-owned by Coop Switzerland. With 38 locations across Germany, Selgros supplies a wide range of high-quality food and non-food products to businesses, including restaurants, hotels, caterers, and gourmet private customers.

Employing around 6,000 people, Selgros offers an extensive portfolio of approximately 50,000 items—from fresh produce, meat, and fish to household goods, electronics, and kitchenware. The brand is particularly recognised for its exceptional fresh departments and has a strong focus on the HoReCa sector (Hotels, Restaurants, Catering).

The Project: Selgros Marketing App

Selgros identified the need to improve its mobile app into a powerful marketing and loyalty tool. Transgourmet’s strategic move to unify all digital platforms provided Selgros with the opportunity to revamp its marketing app—fully integrating it with the central Drupal CMS.

Built on Drupal, the new app allows marketers to centrally manage content, product information, and user access across all channels. Targeted, scheduled push notifications can be delivered to all users or specific segments, ensuring timely and relevant communication.

The app goes beyond marketing—it improves the customer experience. Users can access up-to-date local promotions, link coupons, create shopping lists, and browse digital brochures, making it a smart, modern tool that strengthens loyalty and engagement.

Why Drupal was chosen

For Selgros, part of the Transgourmet Group, Drupal was the clear choice to power their unified digital ecosystem. Drawing from a proven track record with Drupal, the team used its flexibility to create a centralised content platform that serves the entire organisation — with updates made once and instantly available across all subsidiaries. This reduces duplication, slashes IT costs, and simplifies governance across markets.

By pairing Drupal’s robust CMS with a native ReactNative application and integrating API-first technologies like Commercetools, Selgros delivers an omnichannel experience. Drupal’s API-first architecture ensures content can be efficiently delivered to native apps and digital touchpoints, while the shared platform model delivers significant economies of scale — maximising performance and ROI across the group.
